Visitor Experience:

The Brisbane Building has been a fixture in Downtown Buffalo since it opened in 1895. It was in disrepair when Stuart Hunt purchased the building in 1985. Mr. Hunt renovated the entire building, including the lobby and public areas and installing modern HVAC and mechanical systems. The Brisbane is again going through a significant restoration process that can be seen on the Doors Open Buffalo tour.

Building Description:

The building was constructed and opened in 1895. The architect was Milton E. Beebe.
Style: Beaux Arts Classical Revival.
Significant features and building materials: Significant use of walnut doors, marble
wainscoting, bronze cladding on the exterior.
Past owners: James Mooney and James Brisbane
Current owners: Stuart Hunt acquired the building in 1985. It is currently owned by his sons’, Peter and Stephen Hunt.
The Brisbane Building housed significant retail tenants e.g. Kleinhans Department Store and Woolworth’s when downtown was a retail hub. The Kleinhans family funded the construction of Kleinhans Music Hall, the home of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra.
