We will need many enthusiastic volunteers in order to make Doors Open Buffalo a success! Please review the FAQ and Volunteer Job Description below and complete the Volunteer Application if you would like to be a part of the event on Saturday, June 15.
How do I sign up?
Click here to fill out the volunteer registration form. Doors Open Buffalo staff will be in touch with available training dates and no later than June 11 with your building and shift assignment. We’ll need hundreds of volunteers across the 30+ participating buildings, so please spread the word to friends, family and coworkers. You can indicate on the registration if you want to be assigned to a shift alongside a friend. They will need to register too!
What does a volunteer shift entail?
You’ll be assigned to tasks like greeting and counting visitors, directing foot traffic inside of your building, providing a basic description of your building to visitors, and managing lines and crowd flow. Shifts typically last 3 hours and you can indicate your preferred shift time and length on the volunteer registration form. We will do our best to assign you to your preferences but please note that it is not a guarantee! Learn more about volunteer duties in the Job Description below.
What building will I work in?
You can choose what neighborhood you prefer on the volunteer registration form. We will do our best to assign you there, though we cannot guarantee it. You will receive your building assignment no later than June 11.
What about parking?
Volunteers will need to arrange their own transportation to their shift. You can find information on where to park in our Where To Begin section. Street parking is free on the weekends as are many of the public lots. If you are not familiar with the downtown area, we highly recommend researching parking once you’ve received your building assignment.
What do volunteers get?
We’ll provide you with bottled water, a stock of snacks at the main information hub, a keepsake volunteer lanyard, time before or after your shift to enjoy the rest of the event and the unique privilege to have been a part of the first-ever Doors Open Buffalo!
